Parting is such sweet sorrow
Park at the Traveller’s Rest pub just beyond Grasmere and walk up the road to Mill Bridge where you follow the lane to your right. This footpath leads to the grassy rib of ‘Little Tongue’ and contours round Seat Sandal to the pass of Grisedale Hause.
Walk down to the outlet of Grisedale Tarn, cross the stream and go toward the large track coming up from Grisedale, but keep right of the track to find the Brothers Parting Stone. The stone marks the spot where William and John Wordsworth said farewell to each other for, unbeknownst to them, the last time.
Return to Grisedale Hause and take the track on the other side of the stream back to the Traveller’s Rest, or if it’s a fine day you could take the high level route over Seat Sandal or Fairfield.
William and John Wordsworth didn’t know that this spot would mark their last goodbye.
None of us know exactly which day will be our last. What do you think will happen when you die?
What do you think about this verse from the Bible? ‘God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son (Jesus) so that everyone who believes in him… will have eternal life’
